|COPE Galway have been recruiting and supporting volunteers as an integral part of their work to combat social isolation in our community since the beginning of their service provision in Galway. The current scope and depth of their volunteer roles reflects not only their longstanding commitment to the value that volunteers bring to their organisation but also the range and quality of services that they provide within our local community.|
Volunteering within COPE Galway offers individuals a unique opportunity to gain practical experience and real insight whereby they can use their skills and talents in a supportive environment. For those who have knowledge, experience and an interest in social issues or community work and wish to practice both their professional and personal skills, offering your time with COPE Galway can bring real opportunities and benefits to anyone seeking them.

This role offers the opportunity to work directly in a homeless service in Galway city. The Day Centre volunteer will be involved in supporting staff working directly with clients who access Teach Corrib Day Centre. The volunteer will help with basic supports such as laundry and food prep as well as focussing on interacting with clients in a positive and proactive manner while encouraging engagement in activities. The ideal candidate will have an interest in working with the homeless as well as knowledge and understanding of the issues involved in this area. Volunteers are welcomed and supported to bring their own personal and creative skills to the fore in this role.
A forum has been established across COPE Galway homeless services for clients to come together independently to contribute to the development of services in a variety of ways. One of the outcomes of the forum is to improve opportunities for social networking. In order to progress this, the members would like to recruit a volunteer to assist them with organising and scheduling activities for forum members and clients currently using homeless services. The role requires strong organisational and admin skills, as well as a third level qualification in Social Care/ Community Development or a related field.
