Jessica is 26, Irish and has been living in Galway for over ten years.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: I volunteer with Madra so I have a big interest in animals, and I was qualified as a makeup artist so I felt the role with Look Good Feel Better was the best position that suited to me.

When did you start volunteering ?

Just under two years ago.

Why did you start volunteering?

I wanted to make my free time worth while for other people if that was at all possible.

What role are you currently volunteering in and can you tell us about it

Once a month there is a makeup workshop held in the Hospital for patients who are undergoing chemotherapy or just starting their treatment. I had received my training for my own makeup artistry school. We show the women how to correctly take their makeup off, go through a skin regime and then all the steps to applying a full face of makeup.

What is the best thing about volunteering in your own opinion?

To me, it is a feeling that money cannot buy, I really enjoy putting a smile on people’s face (even if my jokes are not that funny!)

What would you say to someone who was thinking about starting volunteer work?

That it doesn’t matter how often you do it, but if you can spare some time, it will be so rewarding for you and more importantly who you choose to help.
