Galway Volunteer Centre is committed to the protection of the rights and privacy of individuals and organisations, including staff, volunteers, Volunteer Involving Organisations (VIOs) and others whose data is held by the organisation. This commitment is underpinned by full compliance with the statutory measures that ensure these rights, namely the Data Protection Act 1988, the Data Protection (Amendment) Act 2003 and the General Data Protection Regulation 2016. To meet our responsibilities under the legislation and in accordance with the data protection principles, we will:

  1. Obtain and process information fairly.
  2. Keep it only for one or more specified, explicit and lawful purposes.
  3. Use and disclose data only in ways compatible with these purposes.
  4. Take appropriate measures to keep data safe and secure.
  5. Keep it accurate, complete and up-to-date.
  6. Ensure it is adequate, relevant and not excessive.
  7. Retain for no longer than is necessary for the purpose or purposes in was collected.
  8. Provide data to data subjects on request.
